Kitchen chimney

Kitchen Chimney Losing Suction? Service, Auto-Clean and Costs (2026)

5 min readยท

Written by the Yantra4All editorial team and reviewed by our service-operations leadership โ€” 25+ years of hands-on appliance service experience across India.

Indian cooking - heavy tadka, deep frying, high-flame gravies - loads a chimney with grease far faster than the Western kitchens these units are designed around. Almost every loss-of-suction complaint is really a degrease problem, not a broken chimney.

The good news is that the fix is usually a deep service rather than a part. The catch is that a neglected chimney eventually clogs the blower badly enough to burn the motor, which is the one expensive outcome worth avoiding.

Weak suction - almost always grease

When smoke stops clearing, the filters and the blower wheel inside are caked with hardened oil, and the motor simply cannot pull air through. Baffle and mesh filters can be soaked and cleaned; the blower and duct need a technician to open and degrease.

A professional deep service - filters, blower, duct and body - runs roughly 700 to 1,500 and restores suction to near-new. If you cook heavy Indian food daily, this is a twice-a-year job, not a once-in-a-while one.

What auto-clean actually does

Auto-clean chimneys have a small heating element that warms collected oil so it drips into a removable tray, keeping the blower cleaner for longer. It reduces how often you need a deep service - it does not eliminate it. Filters and the duct still need periodic professional cleaning.

If the auto-clean button does nothing, the heating coil or its switch has usually failed, a fix in the 600 to 1,800 range.

Noise and motor faults

A rattling chimney is often just a loose blower wheel or mounting that has vibrated free - a quick tightening job. A grinding or dead motor, however, means the blower motor needs replacing, the costliest chimney repair at 1,800 to 4,500. This is almost always the end-state of years of skipped degreasing, which is why regular service is the real saving.

What to do next

For weak suction or oil dripping, book a deep service - it resolves the vast majority of chimney complaints. For auto-clean, noise or a dead motor, a diagnostic visit will scope the part. Yantra4All engineers degrease filters, blower and duct on-site and check the motor and auto-clean coil in the same visit.
