My single door fridge cools the freezer but not the lower section. Why?
Classic thermostat or airflow issue — in direct-cool fridges the lower cabinet is cooled from the freezer plate, so a weak thermostat, an over-iced freezer, or a leaking door gasket starves it. All three are checked and priced in one visit.
How often should I defrost a direct-cool fridge?
Whenever the ice layer reaches about half a centimetre — usually every 1–2 weeks in humid months. Faster icing than that suggests a worn door gasket letting moist air in; replacing the gasket stops the ice marathon.
Is gas refill worth it on an old single door fridge?
If the compressor is healthy, absolutely — a proper leak-fix-and-recharge gives years more life at a fraction of replacement cost. If the compressor is weak, we tell you before you spend. The pressure readings decide, not guesswork.
